The Core i9 in that model is designed to run at a base clock frequency of 2.9GHz, with a 4.9GHz maximum using Intel's Turbo Boost technology.

Tuesday's firmware update comes after reports surfaced last week that the top-of-the-line 15-inch MacBook Pro with a Core i9 processor was running, at times, at 2.2GHz under heavy workloads, such as rendering video in Adobe Premiere Pro.
